This document lists the copper SFP/SFP+ modules tested on CSG and Dell appliances. It includes the testing procedures used for qualification. Some of the caveats observed during the testing are also listed. Since the remote devices at the customer site may vary, it is highly recommended that customers validate the compatibility/link issues in their lab/production environment before ordering these units in bulk.

1G Copper SFPs

  • FINISAR FCLF-8521-3
  • ARISTA VXR-10007-20

10G Copper SFP+

  • 10GTEK ASF-10G-T
  • FS SFP-10G-T

Copper SFPs on Dell Platforms

  • 1G:   DELL FCLF8521P2BTLDL1
  • 10G: DELL LCP-10GRJ3SRT-D3

Testing Procedure:

  • Test Case 1:
    • Interfaces are enabled and Copper SFP is plugged in without inserting cable  == > Expected behavior for link LED is to remain turned OFF
  • Test Case 2:
    • Interfaces are enabled and Copper SFP is plugged in with cable inserted ==> Expected behavior's are  LED's to be lit and Interface Link Status to be UP
  • Test Case 3:
    • DUT interface is disabled and remote pair is enabled ==> Expected behavior's are DUT and Remote end LED and Link Status to be DOWN.
  • Test Case 4:
    • Re-enabling the DUT interface (which was disabled in TC3) and remote pair is enabled ==> Expected behavior's are DUT & Remote end LED and Link Status to be UP
  • Test Case 5:
    • DUT and Remote end interfaces are disabled ==> Expected behavior's are DUT and Remote end LED and Link Status to be DOWN
  • Test Case 6:
    • DUT and Remote End interfaces are enabled ==> Expected behavior's are DUT and Remote end LED and Link Status to be UP
  • Test Case 7:
    • DUT undergoes soft reboot and Remote end remains ON ==> Expected behavior's are DUT LED and Link Status to be UP
  • Test Case 8:
    • Verify Copper SFP EEPROM Read Support through command "show interface sfp info vni-x/x"

Caveats observed

Below are some of the caveats observed during interoperability testing of copper SFPs

  1. In Test Case 3, when the local DUT interface was disabled, the Link LED and Link Status on the remote end remained UP
  2. When performing Test Case 4 with Arista VXR-10007-20 optics, the link LEDs on both the DUT and the remote end kept toggling, and the link remained DOWN. To restore the link, it was necessary to disable and then re-enable the interfaces on both the DUT and the remote end
  3. While performing Test Case 5, we observed that when the DUT and remote end interfaces were disabled, the LEDs on both the DUT and the remote end remained ON, while the interfaces were DOWN.
  4. While performing Test Case 8, reading information from copper SFPs is not supported.

The following table lists the supported copper SFP (1G/10G) ports and any observed caveats. The NIC firmware used during testing is also captured.

- Caveat 1 applicable Copper SFPs, FINISAR FCLF-8521-3, ARISTA VXR-10007-20 & DELL FCLF8521P2BTLDL1.

Known Issues:

  • Sometimes LED remains OFF when Interface link status is UP.
  • LED remains ON when Cable is unplugged.
  • When LED is ON, restarting versa services will bring down LEDs.
  • Bringing back LED up is through unplugging Copper SFP and inserting it back.
