Purpose
This procedure helps rename a site hostname or site name (on a standalone device) to a new name without a truck roll to onsite.
Procedure
Step 1 — Edit the Site Name
In Concerto, go to Tenants → Deploy. This will land on the Site Page. Edit the Site Name and save.
Note: The site name here is locally significant. Editing it will not affect any other fields on Concerto or Director.
Step 2 — Navigate to the Appliance Page
Double-click on the Site to land on the Appliance page. You will not be able to edit the site name here as it will throw an error.

Step 3 — Create a New Appliance with the New Hostname
- Use a different serial number since the same serial number cannot be used in two workflow devices. You can use something like
<original serial number>-New. - Attach the same Master Profile and publish the appliance. This will create a new workflow device with a new device group. The old device group cannot be reused.
Step 4 — Complete Director-Side Steps
Follow Steps 2 and 3 from Case 1 in this article:
How to Change Hostname of an Already Onboarded Site
Note: This step is performed in Director.
Step 5 — Delete the Old Appliance
Once the device is up and tunnels are established, delete the old appliance from the Concerto Appliances page. This will delete the configs on Concerto and the old workflow device configs on the Versa Director.
Step 6 — Done
This completes the steps to change the hostname of an existing device hosted via Concerto.
Caveats
- When the site name is changed using the above procedure, the UUID of the device changes. Entitlement reports will be generated with the new UUID but with the updated site name.
- With the site name change, the serial number in the template is also changed.
- When a CPE name change occurs, the old license for the old CPE name will be terminated and a new license for the new CPE will be started. When the old license has a 3-year or 5-year contract period, the new license will be created for a 1-year period only.
- Some older software versions have a bug where the TVI IP or name cannot be changed, so the above steps will not work. Latest GA versions for VOS 20.2.4+, 21.1.3+ and 21.2.1+ have the fix (Bug ID 65825).
NOTE: If you are trying to edit the Site Name on a multi-tenant appliance, you will not be able to edit it as it will throw the error shown below:

However, you can edit the appliance name by following the same process as shared above.
